Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

DAY FOURTEEN: READY THE BRIDE

"Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom…”- Matthew 25:1

A cursory glance at the parable in the gospel of Matthew 25 takes us to a different time in history, when the groom was the center of the wedding celebration. He is greatly anticipated as he was off preparing a place for His bride. He returns to find her and her wedding party ready for the occasion. The bride has been waiting for this day of final “In-gathering” since the day of her sealed redemption. What a groom she has!

Have you ever considered the groom’s excitement about coming to receive his bride? He has waited, planned, and anticipated the wedding night. He would finally consummate their union and they would never be apart again. Does that remind you of anyone? He is home, where we long to be. Heaven is preparing our wedding feast. As he walks through the banquet halls he won’t so much as sneak a taste of wine before we arrive! He is awaiting the homecoming of His bride.
The church, the Bride of the Groom to come, is getting ready for her wedding! How can she occupy till He comes? She has to work to get dressed while there is light outside, because the night is coming when she can no longer work. She’s got to send out a ton of invitations, pack her bags and put on the garments that He sent her. She sees the signs of His coming and she is quickened.

As we see the time soon coming, we are encouraged to work and not just wait. As the bride of Christ, we can be praying for others who don’t know the Lord. We can share the gospel with those who don’t know Jesus. We can be the hands and feet of the Lord, by endeavoring to meet the practical needs of people all around us. Now is not the time to just sit and wait but rather we should be working and getting ready for our wedding day. Although the signs are clear, we do not know the day or the hour of our wedding feast. Therefore, we must always be ready for his arrival.

Lord, help me to be found working for your kingdom as the day draws closer and closer.
Amen
